Will I have to go for a medical assessment?
In most cases, you will also be asked to go to a medical assessment as part of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA). The assessment is done at an assessment centre and is run by the Medical Support Services. A healthcare professional (usually a doctor or nurse) will ask you about a normal day and may not ask you exactly the same questions that are on your health questionnaire.

Home visits are usually only carried out when you are unable to leave your home for any reason; if you can normally attend GP appointments then you can be reasonably expected to attend an assessment at an assessment centre. If you feel that you cannot attend then you need to explain how your condition stops you from attending.

You can also ask for your assessment to be recorded or for someone to go in with you to make notes. Call 0800 288 8777 before the assessment to let MSS know.
You cannot secretly record the assessment and if you do, you may lose your benefit.
What will the assessor ask me?
The assessor will ask you some questions about your health, but they might also ask you some general questions like:

- What do you do in a normal day?
- When was your last job?
- What conditions do you have and what treatment do you get?
- How do you sleep?

- The answers you gave.
