Social Care for people with mental health issues in Northern Ireland should be provided by your local Trust. Your local Trust is obliged to provide social care if you meet the qualifying criteria.

Social Care for people with mental health issues in Northern Ireland and should be provided by your local Trust. Your local authority is obliged to provide social care if you meet the qualifying criteria. They have a duty to assess you.

When determining most appropriate help, the Trust should take into account the following;

  • any disabilities you have, as well as physical and mental health
  • what you need assistance with, for example, cleaning, shopping etc.
  • what is important to you, for example, do you wish to stay in your own home
  • any other circumstances - is the assistance short or long- term, do you live alone, have a carer etc.
